A large contingent of golfers from Roxby Downs travelled to the Woomera Golf Course on Saturday to play in the Sandvik Desert Classic.
A large number of local Woomera golfers also took part in the competition as well as four golfers from Port Augusta and three from Streaky Bay.
Overnight rain had helped to settle the sand on the course and also created some large mud puddles to be avoided.
Leaders at the end of day one were visiting golfers from Streaky Bay Jason Habel and Brenton Huntley who held a narrow lead over Roxby Downs golfer Shane Hunter and his partner Chris Kenny who is a former Roxby Downs Club member who is now living in Streaky Bay.
The competition continued at the Roxby Downs course on the Sunday where the battle for top spot continued.
Jason Habel and Brenton Huntley came out on top with a very impressive 127 off the stick, six strokes in front of Shane Hunter and Chris Kenny.
Big hitting was the order of the day with some impressive long drives, including twoby young golfer Seb Holbrook who take out both longest drive prizes in division two.
A record four ladies teams competed for the Ladies title, which was won by Port Augusta golfers Julie Turner and Leanne Shinnick.
The battle for the NAGA prize was also fiercely contested with Bundy Bannerman from Woomera determined to regain his title with the help of his partner Tiffany. Bundy and Tiffany managed to hold on to win the NAGA trophy.
Competition for next year’s event promises to be keenly anticipated as Roxby Downs and Woomera golfers plot to bring the trophies back from Streaky Bay and Port Augusta.
