Roxby Downs Police are now able to issue on-the-spot fines to people riding unregistered and uninsured motorcycles on public roads.
Roxby Downs Police have received numerous complaints regarding people riding motor cycles on public streets in the area while the motorcycles are unregistered and they do not have licences.
Police said many young people are riding motorcycles to and from sand dune areas on public roads.
The requirement for unregistered and uninsured motorcycles is to be pushed or carried on trailers to approved areas.
Police said they are not to be ridden on public roads.
Senior Constable Fiona Kerrish said motorbike riders are riding off-road along dirt tracks and are crossing over Pioneer and Axehead Roads into the scrub.
She said activity mainly occured between 4.30pm to 5pm.
“We’ve been getting a number of complaints recently and they’re mainly to do with noise” she said.
“It’s dangerous and inconsiderate of other road users.”
Sergeant Stuart Paxton said there are also a lot of school children around at that time of the day too.
There will be a $250 fine for unregistered bikes and a $500 fine for uninsured bikes. There will also be penalties for those who permit someone else to use their bike.
