BHP Billiton to give $25m for highway

02 Feb, 2012 07:52 AM
Roxby Downs and surrounding towns can expect an increased workforce when work begins on the upgrading of Stuart Highway.

Shoulder sealing and road widening along the Stuart Highway from Port Augusta to Pimba and then to the mine site at Olympic Dam will be carried out in three stages with first works beginning February 1.

All work is expected to be completed by September 2012, weather permitting.

Minister for mineral resources and energy Tom Koutsantonis said earlier this week that the Stuart Highway would undergo the most extensive upgrade in decades in readiness for the Olympic Dam project.

“For those looking for evidence that the mining boom in South Australia will lead to improvements in our state’s infrastructure, here is an excellent example,” Mr Koutsantonis said.
