Liquor licensing laws prohibiting spectators and competitors taking packaged alcohol into Red Dunes Raceway will be strictly enforced at future race meetings.
Members of Roxby Downs Sporting Car Club (RDSCC) have been instructed by police to conduct vehicle inspections to ensure people do not take their own alcohol into the raceway.
Sergeant in Charge of Roxby Downs Police Station, Stuart Paxton, said vehicle inspections were a requirement on RDSCC and any volunteer organisations that help out on race nights under the conditions of the liquor licence the club holds.
The RDSCC liquor licence only permits sale of canned drinks from the licensed bar within the licensed area of the raceway.
Sergeant Paxton said there was no provision for bring-your-own liquor to be taken into the Red Dunes Raceway by anybody.
Police have received information that conditions of the liquor licence may have been breached at previous race meetings.
“When attending the track, whether it is as a spectator, competitor, official, or worker, the signs - which are clearly visible - outline the responsibility on all not to bring in alcohol,” Sergeant Paxton said.
He said people with eskies containing alcohol will be asked to leave, or be reported for offences in breach of the Liquor Licensing Act and their drinks confiscated for destruction.
Officer Rod Ford from Roxby Downs Police said patrons have so far accepted the ban on bringing alcohol into the raceway.
“Police patrolled the area last Saturday and patrons were advised at the gate of the requirements of the licence … and were compliant in that those that did have liquor on board took it home and then returned to enjoy the event.”
Police will be assisting the organisers with regular foot patrols of the raceway for the remaining events this year.
