Andamooka will hold its first official All Saints Day in conjunction with All Souls Day at the Andamooka cemetery at 8pm, November 1.
All Souls day is usually November 2 but when the date falls on a Sunday, it is re-scheduled, so both days will be celebrated on the Saturday.
The day is a way of honouring and celebrating the lives of lost loved ones by placing a candle on their grave.
Organiser Josef Sach moved to Andamooka in 1960 and has friends and family buried at the cemetery.
He and a few friends participate in the day every year but Mr Sach said he would like to see the community get behind the night and hopes to turn it into traditional event.
“I go every year and place a candle for my father,” he said.
“I went with some mates last year and we put a candle on every grave.
“It was just nice seeing the cemetery lit up and I think other people would like it as well.”
He is encouraging people to go to the cemetery, light a candle and bring a drink to toast their loved ones and reminisce.
“Even if you don’t have anyone at the cemetery you can still come because it’s a way of remembering all souls,” he said.
Mr Sach promised a friend who recently passed away he would go to the cemetery on All Saints Day and have a drink of his favourite rum.
People are encouraged to bring their own candle but Mr Sach said some will be available for purchase on the night.
“It’s not a fundraising event but if we do happen to raise any money all proceeds will go to charity,” he said.
If the night is windy Mr Sach said battery operated candles will be used.
