Roxby Downs ecologist John Read has said goodbye to the region, but not before leaving a parting message with the community.
John, who has been in Roxby Downs for 20 years, moved to the Eyre Peninsula on Tuesday to pursue conservation work.
He gave a fitting presentation as a guest speaker at the Outback Field Naturalists (OFN) meeting last Thursday night.
The OFN is a volunteer group which aims to provide a means for the residents of Roxby Downs to learn more about their local environment.
The purpose of John’s presentation was to recap on his time in Roxby Downs and discuss with the OFN group some of his ecological observations and adventures.
His presentation included a slide show featuring clips of past adventures and a discussion about what each trip involved and what natural life was discovered or observed.
John said he still gets excited that new species are turning up in this area.
“People think there’s nothing left to discover, but there’s so much out there that we don’t know what it is or what it’s doing,” he said.
“It’s a very exciting place to be so get out there.”
