Garden in bloom with desert delight

01 Jul, 2009 02:50 PM
Sturt Desert Peas are blooming in a garden in Tiliqua Crescent.

Residents Geoff and Chris Bone noticed the bush around early May this year.

“We grew up in Broken Hill and the Sturt Peas used to grow all over the place,” Chris said.

“Geoff has tried to grow them without any success then this one just popped up in the garden.”

Geoff said the bush shot up by itself and is adjacent to their shrubs, which are watered every second day.

“It just kept growing and growing,” he said.

“We took some to Adelaide for our daughter and they lasted for about seven or eight days in a glass of water.

“You don’t see them this healthy out in the bush.”

Chris said she loves to be out in the garden and admire the growth.

“People always comment when they walk past, saying ‘you’ve got a lovely garden’,” she said.
