Local Girl Guide future in limbo

02 Feb, 2012 07:59 AM
The local Girl Guides group based in Andamooka is facing a bleak future due to lack of volunteers.

The group and has been run by Kristi Jackson, who has been involved with the Girl Guides and similar groups from the age of 8.

“In 2011 we had a couple of camps here at the gun club in Andamooka where we did some camp cooking, made a bonfire and pitched tents and slept in them,” Ms Jackson said.

“That was exciting and the kids loved it.

“We had a couple of nights down here at the pool, we went out to Arid Recovery one night.

“Members range from about eight to 10 kids, all from Andamooka except one whom was from Roxby Downs, but she has just left town – her mum was the second adult helper that was needed to run the Girl Guides.

“I’m now looking for a new helper because legal regulations for Girl Guides require two female adults.”

If Ms Jackson can’t find a second adult helper then she won’t be able to continue running the Andamooka Girl Guides.
