Opal oasis and dino dreaming

It used to be a dam siphoning water off to the opal mines, but today, residents of Andamooka can look forward to the potential of having their own slice of paradise in the blistering desert sun.

“We’re investigating the possibilities of turning the Blue Dam into a town recreation area amongst the arid Andamooka environment, like an oasis,” an Andamooka Progress and Opal Miners Assocation, Inc spokesperson said.

“The surrounding would be rugged Andamooka, with its mounds of opals and fossilised rocks.

“As part of the concept we’re looking at stocking the dam with a type of perch that doesn’t prey on the resident yabby population,” he said.
