Noelette Pearson had the pleasure of presenting the Friends of Arid Recovery with an original painting of bilbies in the wild by her brother Roy Fryer who lives and paints in South Africa.
Roy exhibited here in the Precinct Gallery last year as part of the gallery program.
Ms Pearson was instrumental in brokering that exhibition for her much loved brother.
“Roy is always talking about his visit to Roxby Downs,” she said.
“He loved the bird life here.
“He is fascinated by animals and birds,” Noelette said.
The painting will be raffled to raise money for a release of bettongs and bilbies beyond the west side of the Arid Recovery exclosure.
“We are calling the release project Wild West,” Friends of Arid Recover chair Reece Pedlar said.
“The western side of the enclosure is yet to be completely cleared of feral species.
“It’s the wild west out there for the little bilbies,” Reece said.
Roy Fryer painted the bilbies from two photographs he had from his visit to Arid Recovery while he was here last year.
“He said it was difficult, but my brother is a brilliant painter…there is nothing like the bilby in South Africa,” Noelette said.
