Roxby Districts Squash Club kicked off the season on Tuesday with the first of four grading nights and it is encouraging new players to give it a go.
Club committee member and 40-year veteran of the sport, Tony Holbrook, said grading nights were designed to let new players practise against existing members to evaluate standards.
“This ensures people are graded correctly and play people of a similar standard in the competition.”
The next three grading nights will be held tonight, March 2 and March 4 at 7pm at the sporting centre.
Mr Holbrook said due to the “comings and goings in Roxby Downs” the squash club was always looking for new players including beginners.
“Squash is not so much underrated it is just not a mainstream sport – it tends to be people’s second sport.
“The squash club has been well supported for over 15 years now and we usually have around 70 members either playing or reserving.”
There are two grades to cater for new and experienced players, and a junior coaching clinic in school terms.
The official season will start with the B grade on March 16 and A grade on March 18.
There are six teams of four in each grade depending on player numbers.
A grade teams play Thursdays and B grade teams play Tuesdays.
Matches take between 30-40 minutes and are finished between 9-10pm.
“Squash is a fast game, good for fitness, played indoors, can be played anytime and doesn’t take all day.”
All you need to do now is throw on your court shoes, grab your racquet and head down to a grading night.
