Hornridge Sporting Club is taking part in Telstra’s True Supporters program to help generate much needed funding for new training equipment.
Hornridge is calling on Roxby Downs to help generate funds for new tackle bags, a medical kit, strapping, footballs and a team storage shed through the program.
They are also looking for a shed or more storage facilities.
The club, as well as the whole community, will benefit as funding will allow the team to continue both their local charity work and coaching of the junior league, according to Hornridge Sporting Club president Craig Hancock .
He said receiving this funding was “pretty huge”.
“We’re a young club in regards to footy teams and we’re still getting our structure going so we need to get more training equipment,” he said.
“Any support like this makes running the club much smoother and gets us ready for game days.
“Anything like this helps the community and it makes everyone’s life easier.”
Mr Hancock said at the moment there is four teams who share two rooms and there is just not enough space.
“Ideally, if we can’t get our own clubhouse we’d like to have a joint shed with locker and storage facilities,” he said.
“Instead of keeping our stuff at the clubhouse we need somewhere to store our club gear.”
Treasurer of Hornridge Sporting Club Peter Ebdell said the community has always been great at getting behind the club.
“We want to be able to continue our club’s great legacy of bringing our families and friends together through sport,” he said.
The True Supporters program is part of Telstra’s ongoing commitment to support grass roots football across Australia and aims to give local footy clubs the opportunity for extra support.
