Roxby in hockey cup

10 Mar, 2010 11:52 AM
Eleven Roxby Downs hockey players ventured to Whyalla on the weekend to compete for the Martin Pudney Memorial Cup.

The cup is a round robin style competition where seven teams of seven players play games of two 10-minute halves.

Three Whyalla teams, Stuart, Hummock Hill, and Steel City, and four Adelaide teams from Forrestville, North East Zulu and Adelaide University entered the competition.

Roxby Downs player James Oakley said the team did not just come last, they came “really last”, scoring one goal for the day from Stewart Jones.

However neither that nor the rain dampened the team’s spirit.

“It rained intermittently but it didn’t affect the play. It was actually quite nice and cool to play in,” Oakley said.
