Tight competition for Mail Medal

19 Aug, 2010 11:55 AM
As this year’s football season draws to a close organisers and judging panel members are already sizing up candidates for the coveted 2010 Mail Medal.

Woomera and Districts Football League president Barry Mitchell said a string of favourites were already being considered, in the senior and Under 21 categories, for the league’s night of nights. On the list is Scott Peek and Daniel Rogers from Olympic Dam, Nigel Tutthill and Mitch Blackie from Hornridge, Luke Scobie and Toby Ripley from Andamooka and Roxby Districts’ Justin Watson.

Olympic Dam’s Daniel Rogers took out the coveted medal, on a total of 30 points at last year’s event, with Roxby Districts Cody Kenny claiming the win in the Under 21 division, on 21 points.

Mitchell said Olympic Dam’s Scott Montgomerie was well ahead of the rest in line for the top scorer.

But he said there was still room for some movement and some big goal scores to make their mark.

“It’s pretty close, but Montgomerie does have quite the hold on it at the moment,” Mitchell said.
