Six women and seven men ventured to Port Augusta on the weekend to represent Roxby Downs in the Great Northern Volleyball Tournament.
Teams from Port Lincoln, Port Augusta, Port Pirie, and Roxby Downs competed in the tournament.
With temperatures exceeding 40 degrees inside the stadium the teams had their work cut out for them.
The Roxby women’s team had a mixture of new and experienced players and had never played together as a team before the day.
The team-members worked well together and never stopped encouraging each other finishing up fourth on the day.
Kerry Wild was fantastic at the net using her height to block oncoming balls and spiking to the opposition’s unguarded areas.
Adelle Wallace’s consistent low rising serves kept the opposition on their toes.
Amy Muir always seemed to get the ball over the net even in the trickiest of situations while Sarah Weston’s digs kept the opposition surprised and the encouragement and dedication from team captain Krystle Bower stood out on the day.
The highlight for the women’s team was the last match of the day against Port Augusta 3 where the team came out of nowhere and beat the unsuspecting Port Augusta team 45-28.
Good sportsmanship was a standout with the ladies from all teams sharing a laugh in between sets.
Port Pirie took out the title in the women’s division going undefeated all day.
